TV JAPAN’s Broadcast Coverage Areas
TV JAPAN is available throughout the continental United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico via satellite broadcasting by the DISH Network and affiliate cable TV systems and IPTV via Telephone companies. In addition, TV JAPAN can be viewed in Canada through affiliate cable TV systems and IPTV via Telephone companies. The following chart shows 3 DISH Network satellites (Echo 1, 3, 7) and the satellite for affiliate cable TV systems (Galaxy 13).
Transmission Network
Emergency Backup System
JNG is equipped with a backup system for automated broadcast operations during disasters and other emergencies. TV JAPAN’s broadcasting remained uninterrupted even at the time of the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks, and during the major power outage in the Eastern United States in 2003. This system includes a direct connection to receive emergency overseas transmissions from NHK via the satellite PAS9 (see the chart above).
Broadcasting Facilities and Equipment
Master Control Room
Our broadcast studio, upgraded in 2000 with a cutting-edge digital video system, uses digital video signals (SDI) to deliver high-quality television service. Experienced studio staff works in several shifts around the clock. Using an automated system for video servers, video taping, and broadcast transmission, they assemble a daily schedule of programming, add commercial advertisements, while broadcasting continuously. Two signal-reception satellite dishes (3.8 meters and 2.8 meters) stand on the roof of the broadcasting studio, monitoring TV JAPAN’s transmissions 24 hours a day. The studio is also equipped with an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and a private power generator to maintain normal operation for up to 37 hours in case of emergency or power outage.
Editing System
The studio has its own online video editing facilities, using the most advanced computer-based nonlinear editing systems such as Avid Adrenalin, Avid Xpress, and FinalCut Pro. Graphics are also created and edited in the studio using Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Flash, and other software applications.
Production Studio
A new production studio was added in October 2004 and is used for taping “TV JAPAN Club,” an information program that airs every Saturday, and other original programs. In the event of an emergency situation, relevant news is broadcast from this studio.
